Set Your Pace

It's a Marathon not a Sprint!

How many times have you heard that?

When I was younger I wanted everything to happen now!! I didn't want to wait for "the right time" We lived in a slower time then too. So it everything took forrrreeevvveer! Now we live in a "Now" world. It's all at our fingertips. So obviously we feel that life should be that way too. That we should get whatever we want when we want it. I used to run as hard as I could! I couldn't wait to catch the rabbit. Often times I was the dog in a race that chased the fake rabbit. I never caught it! Running for nothing!
I always felt that there should be a finish line for everything I got in to. Now that I'm older I don't feel that way so much. I've learned that there's a time and a place for everything we do. Timing has something to do with it and sometimes timing works in your favor. Other times it does not. Thats the moment where we need to stand back and look beyond the disappointment. Because there is always something better that we didn't know about around the corner. That always happens for me. I'm sure it's happened to you. If it hasn't, It will.
So keep your head up, take your time, you will get there when the time is right and...

Set Your Pace!

  1. Great philosophy, Alex, but when you bin pluggin away patiently for years and you get to 57 years old, still wondrin whether you can afford to have an egg with that slice of toast, it's hard to really believe that.
I just bin to see Rodrigues - what a story behind him, eh!? - but that's a fairy-tale that you cannot afford to believe in until it happens!
There are thousands of talented song writers/performers out there who will never get heard outside their local folk club (or a few hits on their home-made Youtube video) even though their stuff is more deserving of acclaim than most of the drivel that is endlessly plugged on radio stations (don't get me wrong, I know there is good stuff that gets there, too).
You have probably guessed that I class myself as one of the talents that seems to be slipping thru the net! - although my songs are good enough I am realistic enough to realise that I don't have the 'X-Factor' VOICE to get them noticed.

Hey, I realise that there isn't a finish line and you can never relax, thinking you've made it just because you've had a small success - "keep on working at it and eventually you'll get there."
...Ha! Seems to me that my daughter has the realistic view - "don't worry if your songs don't make it while you're alive ...I'll make millions when you're dead!"
